Oppikoppi 15 - Smoorverlief
Oppikoppi is South Africa’s biggest music festival. It takes place just outside of Pretoria and is visited by tens of thousands of people. Voted as one of the top ten festivals in the world when I was asked to do the campaign for 2009 I was ecstatic. The thing that made this years festival so exciting was the fact that because it was the 15th year it was taking place it was given the status of a Heritage Monument. The theme for this years festival was ‘Smoorverlief’ which means puppy love in Afrikaans. I chose candy colours and went for a sort of buublegum rock and roll take on teenage love.
The roll out for the campaign included posters, flyers, t-shirts, speech bubble stickers featuring romantic lyrics by the bands performing, an A5 magazine, a website, billboards, street pole advertising, various light box advertising, an editorial in the South Africa version of Vice Magazine, TV adverts and much more.
